What Is FAST?

FAST (Free and Secure Trade) is a joint program between U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Canada Border Services Agency (or its Mexican counterpart) that allows pre-approved commercial truck drivers expedited processing at the US-Canada and US-Mexico borders. FAST-approved drivers use dedicated lanes to move commercial goods across the border more efficiently.

Two FAST Programs

U.S. / Canada FAST

For commercial drivers who regularly cross the US-Canada border. Provides dedicated FAST lanes at participating border crossings between the United States and Canada.

U.S. / Mexico FAST

For commercial drivers who regularly cross the US-Mexico border. Provides dedicated FAST lanes at participating border crossings between the United States and Mexico.

FAST Benefits

• Dedicated FAST lanes at border crossings for faster processing
• Reduced inspection times for commercial shipments
• Streamlined customs clearance
• Valid for 5 years ($50 application fee)

Who Is Eligible?

• Commercial truck drivers who are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., Canada, or Mexico
• Must pass a background check and in-person interview
• Employer must be a C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) approved carrier
